Meet Your Maker | Outstanding Producer Profile
MARGARET DUGGAN of TRADITIONAL COUNTRY PRESERVES is our special producer guest at the Christchurch Winner Dinner at Bloody Marys on Wednesday 26 September 2018. Book online here.
A life rich with experience is one with intense flavour and this is certainly the case with for Margaret Duggan of Traditional Country Preserves, which could be just the secret of why her delicious gourmet creations taste so good!
Margaret has run her Blenheim business for 11 years making artisan jams, sauces, dressings, chutney and relishes which have found fans across the length and breadth of New Zealand.
After years of customers telling her how much they enjoyed her produce, Margaret wanted feedback from trained palates. So in February 2018 she entered Traditional Country Preserves Sugar Free Plum Conserve into the Outstanding NZ Food Producer Awards to see what the judging panel thought.
It was unanimous – the judges loved it, awarding Traditional Country Preserves Sugar Free Plum Conserve a Gold Medal. The panel was full of praise adding the following comments to their judging sheet: “Delicious, looks and tastes great! Perfect plum jam. Visually appealing, dark and vibrant with lovely fruit flavours. Judges would love to enjoy on a Devonshire tea scone!”
Margaret was breathless with excitement when she received the news of her Gold Medal saying, “I was overwhelmed, it was over and above what I had ever expected.”
Speaking to Margaret you will soon discover the love and energy that go into creating all her jams, chutneys and preserves. After a career in which she was one of the medical industry’s first woman sales reps, bringing up her family, completing a chemistry degree as a mother and working in sales for a wine company, Margaret bought Traditional Country Preserves in 2007.
Her secret? Hard work and making the most of local fruit and vegetables as they come into season. There is, of course, the new recipes she loves to develop and the sugar-free range she has created with her daughter-in-law, the kitchen she designed and works from in a backyard portacom, her relationships with growers – all this adds up to reward lovers of handmade quality preserves.
