2017’s Outstanding NZ Food Producer Awards were a delight to host. We are incredibly lucky to have so many fine food operations based in our beautiful country. Following last year’s Awards, we undertook a review and considered feedback from producers, judges and sponsors. We decided to make a few changes to the Awards format based on this feedback to help our producers shine even more in 2018. Here’s everything you need to know.
We have appointed Wine Show Queen Shona White to manage all logistics of the judging. Shona will be the first point of contact for producers when they enter and will share information on delivery of produce with them. She is a master of the double-blind judging system.
We are lucky to again have New Zealand food guru Lauraine Jacobs as the Head Judge on the panel. Lauraine is internationally respected food writer, author and editor of nine cookbooks. She is a Past President of the IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals) and Food Writers NZ and a regular speaker and contributor on New Zealand food and wine.
Judges will be working in panels of three and we will have a specialist panel considering entries from earth, dairy, paddock, water and for drinks.
We have simplified the awards structure and we will award Gold and Silver medals rather than a finalist award. These will be announced Monday 9 April. Gold Medalists will also qualify to be in the running for Category Champion Award and Special Awards.
We will have four Category Champions; Water, Earth, Dairy and Paddock. From the four category champions we will choose one Supreme Champion.
There are five special awards:
• New Zealand Life & Leisure Spirit of New Zealand
• Label and Litho Outstanding Design
• T& G Global Outstanding Commitment to Sustainability
• FMCG Business Outstanding New Product
• Marvellous Marketing Outstanding Drink
We’re again running People’s Choice this year with the support of radio station Coast. We are extending the voting so we can take votes through Facebook as well as the ONZFPA website. Voting will run from Monday 5 March until Friday 27 April.
• Coast People’s Choice Outstanding Food Product
• Coast People’s Choice Outstanding Food Producer
• Outstanding NZ Farmers’ Market
Please let us know if you would like social media voting tiles, imagery or info to encourage people to cast a vote for their favourite product and/or producer.
